Kite Surf School and La Pointe Aux Cannoniers, Club Med

I decided to have a break and was very interested in learning to kite surf. I joined a school for almost six months during the winter season and after that Club Med employed me to work freelance in the water skiing team, which I did for three months under contract. During this time I was also involved in fibre glass repair, basic engine outboard checks and maintenance preparation, paint and varnish finishing.

Still motivated and curious, I used this as an opportunity to experience a different type and style of hotel. Employed as a sailing instructor I was responsible for running lots of events and games during the day. During the evenings I was involved in the entertainment that was provided for the guests and was also expected to socialise with them. This was a seasonal job and also involved general dinghy and multihull maintenance.

Previous Work Experience

I was recommended by the sister hotel I had been working for to take the responsibility of a “Cobra water craft 27” based at le St Geran Hotel. During this time, I was promoted to one of the bigger offshore boats, a “Legend 36“ (a type of a Princess boat). It was my responsibility to take guests on day trips, cruising around the island (Mauritius). Working in a high class and luxury environment, the role involved good communication skills and customer care. I was also involved in general dinghy and multihull maintenance.

February 2005-March 2007 Boat Man (boat house) One and Only Le Touessrok Hotel, Mauritius

I was responsible for teaching adults how to sail on Hobie cats and dinghies as well as water skiing. I was also responsible for children’s entertainment and watersports. Working in a high class and luxury environment, the role required excellent communications skills, personal teaching skills and customer care.

Diving was one of my favourite hobbies during the last five years, so I decided to work with it and at the same time gained more experience in offshore skippering. I was able to help the instructors to give basic initiation at the pool sessions. I was involved in providing a high class service and developed good communications skills.

Having built on my teaching confidence for the last few years, I decided to use this experience to change hotels and to gain further knowledge and experience at another venue.

This was my first job in the hotel industry. When I started I was a beginner at sailing and teaching and spent time enhancing my skills and gaining in confidence with Hobie cats, dinghies and water skiing to enable me to progress and teach the guests. I was also involved in general dinghy and multihull maintenance

1998-1999 Skipper Blue Dolphin, Boston Whaler 17’

It was my responsibility to take the guests from an island named “Ile aux Cerfs”, situated on the east coast of Mauritius, to visit the waterfalls, go snorkelling and make our way along the coast to the south and back. This was either a half day trip or a full day and we provided a barbecue lunch.
